-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> I would request people here to stop being insecure about zcash pump.
-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> Its a pump not because of any organic adoption by masses, nor a private tech breakthrough, nor any regulatory ease for privacy coins pov. It looks more of a speculative cash grab for people looking for get quick rich schemes.
-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> So lets just focus on making a circular economy by using the fungible and private nature of monero, than focussing on a coin pumping. Even pepe pumps without much utility.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @kevino:tchncs.de: Are people being insecure about it?
-
plowsof
ive not been outside since
-
br-m
<kevino:tchncs.de> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: Maybe not everyone , but the constant rebuttal on X made me say this :)

<heyadora:matrix.org> whats going on in here
-
br-m
<heyadora:matrix.org> why are there 900000000 join/left messages
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> IRC bridge
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> IRC bridge should "join" IRC people when they actually talk or something
-
br-m
<321bob321> Irc blockchain
-
br-m
<heyadora:matrix.org> @ravfx:xmr.mx: very interesting
-
br-m
<heyadora:matrix.org> so, what u guys up to?
-
br-m
<heyadora:matrix.org> wheres the monero party owo
-
DataHoarder
20:59:20 <br-m> <ravfx:xmr.mx> IRC bridge should "join" IRC people when they actually talk or something
-
DataHoarder
then you don't know who is listening!
-
DataHoarder
actually that's the way I have thought of the puppets on IRC side for non opted in people
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> DataHoarder: Just assume all TLA record everything, should really not make a difference at the end, I don't think people go thru the member list each time before talking on matrix
-
DataHoarder
I mean, you can't ping the people otherwise
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> hmm, I see
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> If you want to be pigned, use a bouncer!
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> There, Fixed!
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> use a bouncer and say hi at least one time!
-
DataHoarder
the "having talked before" makes sense
-
DataHoarder
except people may change nicks
-
DataHoarder
and two people might appear under same nick
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Arent nick are protected on libera? Like you need to register or something
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> To prevent one to take another one nick
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Thing is, IRC is made is mind that people will join (login) and leave (logout) constantly. And even my basic 31 years old client on NT 3.1 have an option to not display join/leave.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Matrix is made in a way that once the user join, it stay joined even if he logout. And only leave when the user actually nuke the channel from his account.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Most if not all client have no way of filtering these join / leave (as I assume, you would want to know when someone join or leave as it's not related to the online status)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> most if not all MATRIX client have no way...
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Meaning, IRC user can turn the flood off
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Matrix users cant
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Now, most of the chat here is join/leave chatter
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> The OG IRC-Matrix-appservice thing, do have the feature to join IRC user on matrix when they talk, join Matrix user on IRC when they talk, and the IRC users stay on Matrix even if they logout (Which should be fine if the channel require registration and so have nick stealing protection).
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Your bridge use registration information too in the nick, for example : DataHoarder (user/meow/DataHoarder), RavFX (gofsckyourself)...
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> So I don't see how it's a problem if they are not "leaved" when the user disconnect
-
DataHoarder
that's to not be fully relied
-
DataHoarder
it ... breaks sometimes due to limits
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> I see
-
DataHoarder
the issue is that they might get notified
-
DataHoarder
and ... user is not online
-
DataHoarder
I set their away state if they are connected
-
DataHoarder
but Matrix has no "no you can't fucking contact this user as they are not native Matrix and they are literally gone"
-
DataHoarder
though that was one of their main goals, seamless integration
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Can you just buffer theses pings
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Your bridge know there not connect, when one of such user connect on IRC, notify the user is some way?
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Open a query with the user, hey you got a ping a hh:mm:ss from user : blablablabla
-
DataHoarder
22:49:02 <br-m> <ravfx:xmr.mx> Can you just buffer theses pings
-
DataHoarder
less ping more of a conversation
-
DataHoarder
user may not be the same user :)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> But can't you use the use registration data, to prevent user mismatch
-
DataHoarder
it's not always available
-
DataHoarder
querying it is not that trivial
-
DataHoarder
basically to depend on the feature to remind the specific user it'd need way more plumbing that entirely depend on libera.chat anti-spam graces
-
DataHoarder
those messages also appear on IRC side, and like Matrix, the client usually lets you disable join/part messages
-
br-m
<yatta:private.coffee> Everyday I feel more compelled to join the irc darkside, just seems complicated and smaller/dwindling user base > <@ravfx:xmr.mx> Meaning, IRC user can turn the flood off
-
br-m
<yatta:private.coffee> I'm also dumb so prolly larger attack vector if I tried
-
nioc
<ravfx:xmr.mx> use a bouncer and say hi at least one time! <<>> hi
-
DataHoarder
> smaller/dwindling user base
-
DataHoarder
you mean well distilled :)
-
br-m
<yatta:private.coffee> DH stays selling me on the irc life
-
br-m
<yatta:private.coffee> I just gotta learn how to keep it security level of matrix and I'm fully sold
-
DataHoarder
on libera, tbh, 1) register account (
libera.chat/guides/registration) on non-tor ip+email (whatever); 2) connect using Tor (requires authentication) then join channels
-
DataHoarder
the 2) enforces auth so you never end up unauthenticated
-
DataHoarder
and ... that's it
-
DataHoarder
that said cloaks come by default on new accounts nowadays
-
DataHoarder
the rest is operational, if you click links assume they can see who clicked them lol etc.
-
br-m
<321bob321> So the new IRC bridge is like NSA now ?
-
DataHoarder
It always was
-
DataHoarder
Remember all stuff here is also logged publicly in Monero logs site :)
-
br-m
<yatta:private.coffee> But doesn't the longer lifespan of irc mean more potential for malicious folks? Or am I just being paranoid?
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> @yatta:private.coffee: Irc is just a text based protocol.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Explot dont seam to really affect irc. And irc is stateless so you dont have to upgrade or nuke room like you have to do on matrix (matrix get exploited constantly)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> The simpler the better. IRC win
