The common chat protocols do use recognizable ports by default, but you can change that, and I have no idea whether the encrypted traffic to such a server stands out if it's on 443.

Although if you're running your server, the servers you are federated with are expecting you to use certain ports for federating with them, so that sticks out for sure...

(about federation - thinking about XMPP/Matrix, Simplex works differently and I don't know wnough about it).

I don't hink about Session a lot because it's effectively impossible for an individual to host a node.

I know this sounds as a stupid "what if", but random ports remind me of torrenting, I wonder id a chat service could mimic that

I just installed the GUI wallet from GitHub. When it tries to start the local node, the status in the corner gets stuck at "Network status: Starting the node", and in the logs, it keeps repeating every five seconds: "Monero 'Fluorine Fermi' (v0.18.4.4-release) Error: Couldn't connect to daemon: 127.0.0.1:18081". Any ideas what could be going on here? I'm on Windows 11.

In Task Manager I can see monerod.exe, with a second monerod.exe appearing and disappearing every few seconds.

leonardus have you tried to mess with p2pool mining by any chance?

not normal that there is 2 instances of monerod running

plowsof: No, but I just found out the issue goes away when I remove the `--stagenet` flag in "Daemon startup flags". But I'd like to use the stagenet, if I can.

I set up a wallet when I installed the GUI, which is the only wallet I have. I added the --stagenet flag later on

18081 is a mainnet port, stagenet monerod is launching due to the manual flag, but gui assumes mainnet, and sends all commands there, stagenet will be :38081, make sure you have opened a stagenet wallet

you must close the wallet, top left corner [<- , at home screen click advanced settings (bottom) and network, stagenet ->create new wallet

close all instances of monerod manually via task manager first.
