Anyone has a clue how a swapper like sideshift.ai works? I do not think they use atomic swaps, so how can I be sure to not get scammed?
-
kayabaNerve
You can't be sure if it's not an atomic swap. That's why they exist. As for sideshift.ai, I can't comment on it specifically as I've never heard of it. If you find a suitable amount of reviews you trust, which are positive, you *can* try it, but any centralized service can always screw you over.

string111[m]: all swap services are custodial - you give away your coins and hope the fulfill the other side of the deal. Only trustless way is via *actual* atomic swaps (and the service called Atomic Swap isn't...)
-
kayabaNerve
... there's a service called AS which isn't atomic?
-
Inge
yeah

<kayabaNerve> "You can't be sure if it's not an..." <- i think sideshift.ai is what monerujo used to pay btc with xmr after xmr.to closed

There are a few swappers, they are listed here:
getmonero.org/community/merchants

I guess all custodial.

FixedFloat.com, Flyp.me and CoinSwap.click are also good.
-

i tried coinswap.click. works well enough.

fixedfloat has been disabling ltc <-> xmr lately.

Thanks. Those requiring no KYC and trading at 0% fee, seem like honeypots, tbh^^
-
unscottable[m]
if you broadcast from tor and do things properly, no need to worry.
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
KYC-free is accessible, not a honeypot. In comparison, exchanges that require government ID are financially exclusionary and send your data to the state.
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
If you use e.g. FixedFloat, they only know your withdrawal address and amount, deposit TXID and IP address (use Tor).
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
FixedFloat has low fees but probably has high volume, so it still earns money.
-
unscottable[m]
a wallet having the feature to connect and broadcast via TOR proxy is a must for me.
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
If you use the wallet in Whonix Workstation, everything is routed via Tor anyway. Not sure about mobile wallets, since AFAIK Orbot doesn't have a kill-switch and may leak the IP.

unscottable[m]: Yes, sure.

A lot criminals though suck at their OpSec. Would be stupid if the big brother would not at least monitor these swappers.
-
unscottable[m]
criminals are also more likely to have a low IQ, so yea, makes sense.

<anarkiocrypto[m]> "If you use the wallet in..." <- Monerujo now uses the orbot gateway directly (not through is vpn function), so if orbot dies there's no connection.
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
Great to hear. :) I couldn't find any kill-switch in Orbot's settings, so there is a worry that if Orbot fails, disconnects or shuts down, apps would connect to clearnet instead of going offline. Happy to hear that Monerujo is protected against this.

<m2049r[m]> "Monerujo now uses the orbot..." <- Do you mean that monerujo has orbot functionality within the app?

<carrington[m]> "Do you mean that monerujo has..." <- It uses orbot if you have it installed (touch the network icon next to the node to toggle tor connectivity). You can use regular node over tor and also onion nodes
