br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> hi, is it normal to take confirmations this long when sending xmr? it's been 30mins, confirmations 1/10
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> How long was the estimated wait time when you selected the swap provider? They always tell you
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> I'm done with trocador swap, now sending to another address
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> ok, now it updated to 2/10 confirmations
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> That's strange, since 20 minutes ago, it was 00:50, and there have been five blocks since then
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Might just be a matter of coincedence :/
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> s/coincedence/coincidence/
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> yea, 3/10 confirmations now,
-
br-m
<zxcasdqweqwe:matrix.org> I may need to take a nap, I did not know sending xmr take this long
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Typically, it should be spendable in only 20 minutes
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> However, you can usually be assured it's been sent after just one confirmation
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Anyone has monero business cards designs and stuff?
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> different than the ones listed for the press kit
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> or some cool monero designs that i can of course translate into spanish?
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> [... more lines follow, see
mrelay.p2pool.observer/e/--anwq0LQ3ppVDA0 ]
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Hmm, I was thinking you could get the "don't buy Monero" sticker, crop it to 'portrait' orientation, and then print a bunch of small ones on the backs of paper cards
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Sometimes people leave these cards that are like "here's why I paid with cash"
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> mmm interesting
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> will take a look
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Be sure to recommend them Monerujo for high-quality Spanish localizations ;)
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> oh i will
-
BlueyHealer
<jpk68:matrix.org> Sometimes people leave these cards that are like "here's why I paid with cash" <- WDYM?
-
br-m
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Ignore the fact that Redditors think it's weird :P
-
br-m
<absinthium:4d2.org> @jpk68:matrix.org: I'm not sure why we give special praise to something that is still at the end of the day a government system and has pretend value. Next time leave a chunk of gold 😆
-
br-m
<muffin:catgirl.cloud> hi people, is there any way to check the value of monero in a preferably open and privacy respecting way?
-
br-m
<jeffro256> Are you talking about price? With respect to which currency?
-
br-m
<muffin:catgirl.cloud> @jeffro256: yes, USD or EUR
-
br-m
<yahniukov:matrix.yahniukov.com> @muffin:catgirl.cloud: what a strange question. don't overcomplicate things, like google the price
-
nioc
*search
-
br-m
<yahniukov:matrix.yahniukov.com> nioc: sure
-
br-m
<jeffro256> I wouldn't classify Google as "privacy respecting"
-
br-m
<yahniukov:matrix.yahniukov.com> @jeffro256: now you all overcomplicate things)) yes, I meant search.
-
br-m
<jeffro256> Depends on what you mean by "open", since basically all price calculations are by nature closed, but there's this:
price.haveno.network/getAllMarketPrices, you an access by Tor
-
br-m
<jeffro256> If I want to check price against USD, EUR, etc, I usually check my Haveno client
-
br-m
<muffin:catgirl.cloud> @jeffro256: thank you!
-
br-m
<jeffro256> If you don't use an anonymity network, then there's nothing stopping haveno.network from tracking you. I don't think they do, but it's technially possible
-
br-m
<muffin:catgirl.cloud> yes, you're right
-
br-m
<lza_menace> added an lws page if anyone is interested
monero.fail/lws
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> @lza_menace: No no no
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> @lza_menace: Got helpful links, therea also lwcli 💪
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> (a TUI wallet for lws)
-
br-m
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> How can I see what the default is for a setting in the Monero Wallet CLI such as interactivity-lock-timeout or always-confirm-transfers or even see what the current is set to.
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> I think you can just type "set"
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> yes
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Yep, thanks. I intend to one day in the future switch to post market OS, and there's currently no GUI for post market OS that works properly, so I'm learning to use the command line wallet.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> post market os?
-
br-m
<jacoblightning3:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: linux for android phones:
postmarketos.org
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> whats wrong with feather?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> oh nvm
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Yeah, Post Market OS is mainline Alpine Linux running on a mobile phone.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> AI was telling me that some work was already done on the Monero GUI to make it more mobile friendly but that it wasn't completed and that it would probably work best since it's already written in QML and could be made to scale properly.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> But there are things that need to be fixed, like the scaling would have to be upped to 2x for mobile displays, and the minimum window width would have to be reduced to like 360 pixels wide, and some dialog boxes would need to not use fixed widths like the setup wizard and stuff.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Theres a dockerfile for gui android
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> @ofrnxmr: I would have to figure out how to make use of something like that.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> I was able to compile the gui for desktop following the instructions tho. So, maybe
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> It won't be completely relevant anyway if it builds an Android APK, but if the GUI compiles in a mobile usable form, then that would make it easier to port to post market OS.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> I can try it on my Android, since that's what I currently have, and see where the issues are, and report bugs. That I can do.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Well, I got an error when making the build environment, so I reported it as an issue.
-
br-m
-
selsta
shortwavesurfer2009: if you apply this PR is should work
monero-project/monero-gui #4659
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> selsta: Brb...
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> selsta this might be a dumb question, but I just did a git pull on selst/monero-gui. Do I need to actually switch to the specific branch before running the Docker build commands?
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Docker build --tag ...
-
selsta
yes git checkout qt6
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> K
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> git fetch origin pull/4659/head:qt6_4659 && git checkout qt6_4659
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> oh, whoops. i missed that you added selstas repo directly, so checkout qt6 should work on its own
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Sorry for the noob question. I generally always say that I couldn't build my way out of a wet paper bag.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> You know, I wonder if this command could be improved.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> "docker run --rm -it -v <MONERO_GUI_DIR_FULL_PATH>:/monero-gui monero:build-env-android"
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Could <MONERO_GUI_DIR_FULL_PATH> be replaced with like "$(pwd)"?
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Actually, I can't remember if Windows has PWD or not. I know they do stupid shit. So maybe that wouldn't work.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> It's been so long since I've touched a Windows computer though that I can't honestly remember.
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> Thx selsta that worked
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> See, this is why you are smart people, and I am not.
-
br-m
<magrefa:pub.solar> @absinthium:4d2.org: Are cryptocurrencies' value also not determined by people's belief in them?
-
br-m
<magrefa:pub.solar> (Genuine question: not yet active in the cryptocurrency space.)
-
br-m
<lza_menace> @ofrnxmr: have you gotten this compiled and working?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> yea
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> havent used it in a few months, but yes
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i probably subbed ../../ for $HOME
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> always had issues with cmake and relative paths
-
br-m
<yokoama:matrix.org> @lza_menace: someone explain me why should there be public lws ? users will just use random lws and loose their privacy a bad actor will just reverse proxy and dominate your lws list , this is so wrong
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> some people dont care
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> like, if you cared, you would run your own lws server and would have never used mymonero
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> yet, mymonero had a lot of users.
-
br-m
<lza_menace> yeah, different threat models. plus, it's still anonymous. nobody is suggesting you load up a wallet and use a LWS as your primary store. but if you wanted some funds while mobile and LWS meets your needs, no reason you couldn't safely load a hot wallet temporarily w/ burners
-
br-m
<yokoama:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: atleast mymonero was a single 3 digit operation 😅
-
br-m
<yokoama:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: it had lot of users before light wallet mobile apps came up
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> if some stranger uses my lws, and i dont know or care who it is, theres not much im going to do witht he info
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @yokoama:matrix.org: nah, it had a lot of users at the last hardfork when daily txs dropped like 30% bcuz it was broken
-
br-m
<yokoama:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: if the list is filtered with trusted operators, i am fine
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> he has a field for contact info, so im sure trusted folks can add their own there
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> just like the node page, a bad actor can add their nodes there too
-
br-m
<yokoama:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: last fork was years back, mymonero shutdown and there was not much change in txs
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> mymonero hadny been working for a long time when it shut down / barely functional
-
br-m
<yokoama:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: this is a concern, 100s of bad actor lws nodes
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i know i couldnt get the android app to work for at least a few versions
-
br-m
<shortwavesurfer2009> DROID
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> @magrefa:pub.solar: To some extent, yes, but an argument could be made that fiat currencies are largely considered legitimate only because governments exercise force to keep them that way.
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> That's a bad way to word it, but the best I can come up with right now :D
-
br-m
<pw:xmr.mx> @jpk68:matrix.org: I once seen an English bank note and it said
-
br-m
<pw:xmr.mx> "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of [denomination] pounds."
-
br-m
<pw:xmr.mx> so the "legal/legitimare" tender isn't even real - its a IOU for gold reserves and there isn't even enough gold for those IOU bank notes, apparent
-
br-m
<pw:xmr.mx> apparently*
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Yes, well, it's a scam regardless of whether or not the institution wants to admit it
